The NZ IQN Theory Exam has two main components: Medication Safety and Nursing Knowledge. Topics include clinical assessment, patient care management, pharmacology and medication calculations, cultural safety, ethics and professional responsibility, and clinical decision-making in a New Zealand healthcare context. For registered nurse candidates it consists of 120 questions over 165 minutes. Enrolled nurse candidates have a different exam format — always follow the specific instructions in your NCNZ and Pearson VUE booking confirmation.

What types of OSCE stations are in the NZ nursing OSCE?

OSCE stations for internationally qualified nurses typically test clinical assessment skills, medication management, patient communication and education, clinical documentation, infection prevention and control, prioritisation and escalation, and professional responsibilities in a New Zealand healthcare context.

Do I need both the IQN theory exam and OSCE?

Not always. NCNZ assesses each application individually. Some internationally qualified nurses may be required to complete the IQN theory exam, some the OSCE, some both, and some neither competence assessment. Your individual requirements are determined by the Nursing Council of New Zealand.
